Our Story

The Eco Larder is a Social Enterprise on a mission to create a Plastic Free Edinburgh.

During the first few months of 2018, with baby Jasmina still tucked up in the womb, we started to become more aware of the crazy amount of packaging in our recycling bin. And like many people, we used to believe that that stuff actually got recycled. Then after watching Blue Planet (link) and seeing the plastic waste polluting our Oceans, we decided to take a step forward each day in reducing our waste. However, we quickly discovered how difficult it was to reduce our plastic waste with there not being any zero waste shops available in Edinburgh. The idea of The Eco Larder came to mind in the Spring of 2018 & was born at the same time as our little baby Jasmina.

We crowdfunded (link) for 8 weeks which enabled us to raise enough money to open The Eco Larder on the 20th of November 2018. Since opening, the zero waste movement has been continuously growing & more people are becoming aware of how important it is to reduce our waste.

Since opening, The Eco Larder has grown significantly & formed a loving zero waste community. Over the last year we have run monthly beach cleans & craft clubs with our wonderful volunteers. We have been part of numerous zero waste & climate campaigns, we have featured on Countryfile (link) to promote sustainability & were involved in the zero-waste movement at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Alongside all of this, we have started The Eco Larder Podcast (link), started to build our own Ecobrick bench & hosted a range of educational workshops on how to become more sustainable.

We feel honoured to have contributed to promoting a zero waste lifestyle across Edinburgh & we are excited to see what the future holds for The Eco Larder & our community.

A vision & lifestyle that was started with myself & Matt has grown into our little but mighty Eco Larder Team & our Eco Warriors Community.
